This classic parable of mass hysteria draws a chilling parallel between the Salem witch-hunt of 1692, the McCarthyism which gripped America in the 1950s, and the events of today. The story of how the small community of Salem is stirred into madness by superstition, paranoia and malice is a savage attack on the evils of mindless persecution and the terrifying power of false accusations.
“The Crucible” is an Artistic Collaboration between HART and Mountain Art Theatre. This will be the third installment of Artistic Collaborations between the two companies in three years. Beginning with William Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” in 2017, Kate Hamill’s “Sense and Sensibility” in 2018, and this Summer “The Crucible” is sure to amaze. Mountain Art Theatre is equally THRILLED to announce that their dear and brilliant friend, ISAAC KLEIN, will be directing this production. MAT and HART audiences will recognize Isaac from his dazzling performance as both Edward and Robert Ferrars, among others, in last year’s smashing production of “Sense and Sensibility.” Isaac is an accomplished director, actor, and writer formerly based in NYC. He currently teaches acting in the high school drama program at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.
