AUDITIONS FOR OUR 2018 SEASON
Your chance to audition for our 2018 productions.

Those auditioning with prepared monologues will be seen from 6-7:00pm by all directors. Monologues should be kept to 90sec. or less. Vocal auditions will follow.

Anyone unable to attend these auditions who wish to be considered should contact HART at harttheater@gmail.com to set up a private audition for specific directors. Musical auditions for MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET, MAME and GHOST The Musical, will begin immediately following on the main stage. An accompanist is provided. Actors should prepare 16 bars. Actors should not expect to sing through an entire song unless requested and should not sing multiple verses.

Dramatic auditions (for those who did not audition with a prepared monologue) Each director of a non-musical will be located in different areas of the theater and will conduct cold readings. THE UNDERPANTS, THE FIELD, THE BAD SEED, OVER THE RIVER AND THROUGH THE WOODS.

2018 Productions and directors: SENSE AND SENSIBILITY, Dir. Henry Williamson, MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET, Dir. Steve Lloyd, THE UNDERPANTS, Dir. Jeff Messer, MAME, Dir. Steve Lloyd, THE FIELD, Dir. David Yeats, GHOST The Musical, Dir. Mark Jones, OVER THE RIVER AND THROUGH THE WOODS, Dir. Candice Dickinson, THE BAD SEED, Dir. Wanda Taylor.

Each year in February HART holds auditions for all of its productions at once, giving area actors a chance to be cast in roles for multiple productions. Some directors will hold follow up auditions later and chorus auditions are held closer to the time of musical production.

COMMUNITY THEATER ACTORS – HART is fundamentally a volunteer based community theater and preference is given to actors in this category and actors are considered for all roles – actors auditioning for musical roles should bring sheet music. An accompanist will be provided. Actors auditioning for non-musical roles will be asked by each director to read from the script of the show being auditioned. Community Theater Actors are not expected to have prepared material.

SEMI-PROFESSIONAL ACTORS – are considered for lead roles only unless you indicate you are willing to work without compensation, in which case the director may offer any role – any actor can audition in this category but compensation will only be offered to actors who meet the following criteria- Actors must have had training (a university degree in theater or significant class work) and professional experience on stage at other theaters besides HART or be enrolled in the professional theater program at Western Carolina University. Actors must have contrasting monologues, and multiple songs prepared with sheet music, a professional resume and a professional head shot, not taken by HART. These are the standard items any professional or semi-professional actor who regularly auditions for professional companies would have on hand. Compensation for actors in this category is minimal, but intended to recognize the actors experience and training and for WCU students to qualify their casting as a “professional role” for their resume. Directors are given a nominal budget for compensation, and the more actors cast from this category in a production the smaller the amount available. Generally the amount paid is figured at between $15 and $25 per performance.
